Cabin Fever Ride

Date line Columbus, Sunday, January 27, 2008. Little of the last minute, but Cabin Fever got us and we had a little ride today. Riders were Byron, Fred, Bronson & Zona. We even had guests along in a chase car - Mike & Pat Landkamer. Were did we go you may ask? Well let me tell you. These brave soles headed for Norfolk to the Legion Club, and would have made it in good time too, but someone in the group forgot to fill their gas tank. Oh well, He did meet the others at Norfolk, and a good ride was had by all.  Pics in Picture Gallery I 

Ride to Butler County American Legion  Convention in Brainard, NE

Feb 24th - Another fine ride today. Riders were Rollie & Mary Anne, Owen, Fred, Max and Bronson. We had a good ride home and stopped at the DC Bar in David City, NE, for some grub and a toddy. We also had some friends at the DC. We sure could use a photographer.  Pics in Picture Gallery I

ALR attend funeral of a fallen hero

Mar 1st - Our Post ALR rode to Madison to the funeral of a fallen hero. We had 9 members on this ride. After the ceremony we rode in to Norfolk to Whiskey Creek for a late Lunch and some good conversation and a few stories. SMSgt Bob Chadwick, 52, ANG, Madison, NE  Pics in Picture Gallery I

Vets home dinner ride

Apr 6 we traveled to the vets home in Norfolk to help serve dinner to the vets in residence. We had 12 bodies Max, Vern, Owen, Mike & Pat,  Rollie & Mary Ann, Dave & Zona, Bryon & Dawn and their daughter. The residence have many stories and we had a good time talking with them. After we went to Whisky Creek for some grub and chit chat. On the way home the wind was so bad (Ask how windy was it ?) The wind was so bad, it broke one of Vern's flag poles off, But he did retrieve the flag. Picture to come.    Thanks to all that attended!  Pics in Picture Gallery I

Wreath Ride

Apr 20 The Columbus chapter had 13 bike on the wreath run to Spalding were a wreath was laid on the Christopher Pfeifer's grave and then to Grand Island to lay a wreath on the grave of Noah Boye. We met 12 Bikes for the Norfolk Chapter, and others form the Omaha Lincoln, etc. In all there were 62 bikes on the ride. More on this story.

Fourth of July ALR Rides in Parades

Norfolk

The ALR riders were invited to the Norfolk parade by Jerry Landkamer after the parade we were invited to his house for Burgers & bratwurst Thanks Jerry, Starla & Thomas for lunch. WE had  time. Poor Zona her first ride and first parade and her first break down thanks Bryon for  going to get the battery charger to get her back on the road you would think she could find a good mechanic!! North Bend Supper Run

July 18th we had 10 members of our Columbus chapter met at the Raw Hide in North Bend for dinner Members present and accounted for Bryon & Dawn, Vern, Rollie & Mary Ann, Fred, Max, Jim & guest Kathy, Bronson & Zona. Vittles and fun had by all. Thanks Vern for setting it up. Looking forward to the next one hope to see more of you there.

ALR Scavenger Hunt & Steak Dinner

 July 19th 2008 We had our first ALR scavenger hunt and Steak Dinner .We served 45 steaks. Scavenger hunt started at Macken Geld in Bellwood (thanks Bronson) hunters went out in all directions and collected items and returned to the Legion club in Columbus where we checked them in and had a great steak dinner and music was provided by the Dogs a great time was had by all. The response  by the hunters were lets do it again!! And we got 2 new members.

A special thanks to Cargill for providing and cooking the steaks, and thanks to Kevin and Linda for opening up the kitchen and helping us out. A big thank you to all the Riders who helped with this project it takes a lot of work to pull a project like this off. Thanks to the  Norfolk & Edgar ALR riders who joined the hunt.

ALR First Birthday Party

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALR July 23, 2008 we had 13 members come to the party where we had cake and ice cream ( yum) thanks Dawn for getting the ice cream and bowls and spoons and sending out all the e-mails thanks Bronson for getting the cake. Looking forward to another great year of rides and get together. In attendance Dawn & Bryon, patty & mike, Max, Vern, the big guy, Rollie & Mary Anne, Zona & Bronson, Neil, Owen. Thanks everyone for coming.

Post 84 raised $4270.77 for the Legacy Scholarship Fund

I think we did a great job considering we did not start raising money until May of this year. The grand total of all the Legacy donations was More then $ 530,000.00.

ALR Steak Dinner and Clue Hunt

Dinner & Clue Hunt was held on October 4th. 5:00pm for dinner and 6:00-8:00pm for the clue hunt. We served 33 steak dinners. The Clue hunt had 12 people looking for clues. Winner was Bob, Second was Anna, third was Sandy. Everyone said that the clue hunt was a lot of fun, so we hope to have another in the spring! Date will be Announced.  

Kevin and Linda did an outstanding job of cooking the Steaks. Cargill provided the steaks again. They are all great - Thanks

National Commander Visit

Monday October 27th, we had 14 members of the ALR braved the 30 degree temperatures and traveled to Morris Bluffs to escort the National Commander Dave Rehbein back to Hartman Post 84 in Columbus. We had 9 bikes ridden by Vern, Max, Bob, Bryon, Owen, Rollie, Jim, Zona and Bronson.  Dawn, Peggy, and Fred rode in the chase Jeep. The Commander was escorted to Morris Bluffs by Terry Bremmer, one brave ALR member from chapter 1 in Omaha. Leaving Columbus he was escorted by Less from chapter 16 and our own Max. Rehbein stopped in at Columbus Hartman Post 84 Monday afternoon, on his tour though Nebraska. Commander Rehbein is a Nebraska native, growing up in the North Bend area. Rehbein is a US Army veteran of the Vietnam era, attended Wayne State College and Iowa State University. Holds a Bachelor's Degree in Physics and a Masters in Metallurgy. The American Legion Family is the largest veterans  organization in America, with over 4 million members. The American Legion fights for our veterans rights and affairs. As National Commander he has the opportunity to speak on Capitol hill, in Washington, about veteran affairs. During his visit to the Hartman Post 84 he informed the Legion Family and guests about what has been accomplished already this year, on Capitol Hill,  in Washington. Traveling in Nebraska with National Commander Rehbein is: his wife Ann, National Commander's Aide Milt Heifner, National Vice Commander Michael Landkamer, Nebraska National Executive Committeeman Douglas Boldt, Nebraska Alternate National Executive Committeeman Jerry Landkamer,  Department of Nebraska Commander Bill Crosier,  Department of Nebraska Adjutant Burdette Burkhart.

Nut Feed Run

Nov 1, we rode to Osceola for Rocky Mountain Oyster. Rider were Fred, Max, Vern, Jim, Zona, and Bronson. Mike and Pat drove the chase truck. I think we all eat too much, but it made the football game more palatable. Great Nuts, Beans, Potatoes, and Chicken. Thanks to all of you.

Veterans' Day Parade in Central City

Nov 11 Vets Day three of our Legion riders escorted our fellow Legion Rider Mike in the Parade in Central City. Vern, Max and Bronson rode bikes in the parade and Mike and Pat drove in the truck. We love to do it for our very own National Vive Commander & Legion Rider.

Winter Loop Ride

Nov 23 ,  Owen, Vern, Rollie, Max, Bronson, Zona braved the cold and met at the Legion club and went to club 81 for brunch then to Nor Folk to the Legion club  then to West Point and around though Freemont and to the bottom road in Morris Bluffs. A little chili at the start and at the end BUT a good time was had by all.

Veterans' Home - Football

Nov 28 the Columbus ALR were asked to Norfolk Vets Home to help put on a Nebraska football party. Patty, Owen, Max, Bronson, & Zona made the trip and helped during the NE vs CO game.

CPT Rob Yllescas Escort & Funeral

Dec 6th three of the Columbus Chapter rode to the escort and stood in the Flag line. Mac, Kent and Bronson. The Funeral will be Monday, Dec 8th and I hope we will have a lot of members participate.

 

Dec 8, Monday Night after the Funeral. The people from Kansas did not show so we did scare them off. This is a good thing! Great job. Columbus had 14 members. Riders Max, Owen, Kent, and Bronson, and Dawn, Linda, Rollie, Bob H, Vern, Keith, Mike, Robert on the flag line. Two of our members were working traffic control; Bill and Chuck. There was also a group of the Columbus Post 84 honor guard. Thanks to you all - Outstanding Job.

Gifts For The Troops

Saturday Dec 13 Thanks Workers; Peg, Max, Albin, Dawn, Bob, Mike, Zona, Bronson who collected items from shoppers at the Wal-mart in Columbus. The shoppers were very generous. Thanks to all the shoppers that contributed on Saturday! Also a big thank you to Wal-Mart for letting the ALR Set up in front of the store.

New Officers installed

Monday Dec 22 the rider's new officers were installed. We are looking forward to them leading the riders though a great year in 2009. The 7 new officers are; Director - Byron Soper, Assistant Director - Mary Anne Otte, Secretary - Zona Ragan, Treasure - Dawn Soper, Historian - Peggy Speicher, Sgt. of Arms - Fred Lutjelusche, Ride Captain - Robert Moss.  After the meeting we had treats supplied by Dawn Soper, Zona Ragan, Robert Moss, Keith Kline. Owen Lloyd was appointed to head the event committee to set up dates for up coming events like the scavenger hunt and clue hunt, so keep checking back as we will be posting the dates for all events on the events calendar page.
