Columbus Post 84 ALR is Alive and Riding

New Years Ride

Jan 1, 2009 Mac and Bronson went for the traditional New Years Day Ride. They road from Bellwood to Columbus stopped at the club then on to Schuyler and back to Bellwood. With the circle complete and they have proven that 2009 in the time. Let's have a great year of riding and serving.

Chapter 84 recieves award for work on Legacy

Jan 10, 2009 Bryon Soper accepted an award for Chapter 84 of the American legion riders. The award was given for exceptional work on the Legacy Scholarship Program. Omaha, Lincoln and Norfolk also received awards.

Christmas Party / Steaks / Meeting / White Elephant

Jan 26 the ALR had 23 Members and Guests for Christmas Steaks fallowed by a white elephant gift exchange, and a short meeting. In attendance were: Albin, Bob, Kent, Linda, Jim, L.J., Peg, John, Max, Fred, Patty, Mike, Carroll, VonDell, Keith, Janelle, Owen, Rose, Mary Ann, Rollie, Byron, Dawn, Zona. Bob and Byron did a great job cooking the steaks and everyone brought a covered dish we had a great meal. We had a short meeting and we had a guest speaker come in and talk to us about some local soldiers who we can send our care packages to that have no access to a commissary and are living in tents. Then after the meeting the fun started with the white elephant gift exchange we had gifts ranging from Harley items to a live gold fish and candles and Rollie went home with a blue stuffed elephant Dawn took home the gold fish. NOTE if Owen starts to sound like Elvis he got a Elvis impersonator set it has side burns and a CD on how to talk and walk and gyrate like Elvis, Ps. Owen at our February meeting we want a show, we all had a great time and it was nice to see some new faces there and hope to see them again. Thanks to everyone for coming.

Past Commander Funeral

Tuesday Feb 10 the ALR went to Fremont to the NE Past Commander Edward Farr funeral. Attending and ridding were Vern, Rollie, Owen, Max, Bob, Bronson. After we rode to Davy for a tody and then stopped to David City for a Burger on the way home. More Pics in Picture Gallery IV

PVT. James K. Treacle Funeral

March 4th, ALR members Kent, Bronson, Vern, and Fred joined 60 plus others attending the funeral in Callaway NE for PVT. James K. Treacle, 24, Nebraska National Guard - 1195th Transportation Company. It was a little chilly around 8:00am but the sun was out and they headed west to a nice warm day. By funeral time it was tee shirt weather. A Saturday Ride

Apr 11th we rode over to Ashland just for the fun of it, then to Murray and back though the edge of Lincoln to Valparaiso. Riders were Vern, Owen, Keith, Max, Fred and Bronson.

Breakfast Ride

Apr 19 we had a breakfast run to Central City. From there we went to Polk and back to Columbus. Bob, Vern, Max, and Bronson rode. In the afternoon Max, Vern, and Bronson rode on to North Bend then up to Howells, over to Leigh, and back down to Apele Bees in Columbus. Another good day!

Supper Ride

Apr 25 was the supper run to Linwood. Report as soon as I get it.

Columbus Bike Show

May 2nd and 3rd we will be at the Columbus Ag Park for the bike show. We have planned to set up a booth for the American Legion Riders. Come on out and see the bikes and have some fun!

ALR Care Packages for Troops

We are sending the  troops from our local area that are overseas some items that are hard for them to get. Those little extras that help them know they are appreciated back home.  There will be a drop box at the Legion club. If you would like to donate have list available at the Legion Club of items that are needed and wanted by our troops.

ALR Clue Hunt

We held the Clue Hunt on Jun 13th, and fun was had by all. We had a great turnout we had a steak dinner and prizes it was a great time. Thank you all for coming and as soon as I get the names of the winners I will post them. 

 

Rider at the Nebraska State Fair

Hartman American Legion Riders Chapter 84 were there along with Chapters for all over the state of Nebraska. There were well over 50 ALR bikes in the parade. below are some of the picture from the parade. Members attending: Max, Owen, Mikie, Pat, Rollie, Mary Ann, Zona, and Bronson.

Rider Escort MIA/KIA Home to Nebraska

Sept 26th our Hartman Chapter 84 riders were among about 200 Motorcycles to escorted Don Grella from Omaha to Laurel, NE

Chapter 84 Riders attend Grella Funeral

  Oct. 3, 2009 we had 8 soles from the Hartman 84 family, brave the cool nasty day to attend Don Grellas Funeral. Spec Don Grella, Army Special Forces, MIA/KIA, 28 DEC 1965, in the Central highlands of Vietnam. He has been Missing In Action ever since. This past Summer remains that were found were confirmed as being SPC5 Grella. Spec Grella would have been 68 years old now. The Hartman Chapter riders had 8 members; Owen Lloyd, Vern Martinsen, Chuck Sheer, Albin Moore, Max Young, Gaylen Johannes, Rob Goudy Ken Zobel, on the Flag line. Great Job to all of you in the Legion Family! After the funeral the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department invited the riders and veterans to the fire hall for lunch. We ate sloppy joes and hotdogs for no charge. Thanks Lauel Volunteer Fire Department!

ALR Pigeon Race

Oct 3 we held the first Pigeon Race. Below are the winners, I am sorry if I have misspelled any ones name. Dawn will be contacting the winners and sending out the checks. We had a great time and hope to do this again next year. We made $500.00 for the Legacy, and sold food and drinks making about $80.00 for the general fund, not bad.

Riders Do Funeral Escort

Oct 6th 8 Members Served funeral Escort for a WWII Veteran Harold Christ. Harold served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII and was recipient of a bronze star for his distinguished service to his country. Members on the escort were Vern, Bronson, Owen, Chuck, Jim, Max, and Zona.

Riders Do Funeral Escort for Cerny

Oct 13, 5 of our members and 7 Omaha chapter members rode a funeral escort in North Bend. Member from Our chapter attending were Vern, Rollie, Max, Rob, and Bronson.

Howells for a turkey dinner

Oct 18th 3 members rode to Howells for the Howells Legion Post annual Turkey dinner. It was a great dinner and will be on the schedule in years to come. Members were Vern, Owen, Bronson, and Fred

Fun Ride

  Nov, 28, 2009 4 riders road down to Malcolm only to find out the Lounge was closed. Being very resilient they set of to find a watering hole. That they did and after some kicking tires and telling lies they returned home. What a beautiful day for a ride! Temperatures in the mid 50s and no wind, no tickets, and no crashes. What more could a rider ask for.

Saturday Dec 12 Vern and Bronson made the trip to Grand Island for the ceremony.

Riders escort Sgt. Thomas's back to Columbus

Our riders drove to North Bend to honor Sgt Klayton Thomas 25, with an escort on his final journey home to Columbus Nebraska. His funeral service is on Saturday, January 2, 2010. Sgt Thomas died while serving on active duty in San Diego California.
